poem of the week

I dedicate this collection to my inipi brothers and sisters who keep home alive for me, and to the Tulalip Tribes, who trusted me with their children, and to my own grandfathers and grandmothers and all my anonymous ancestors who gave up the old ways to avoid capture, and to hawk, who brings me messages, and to turtle, who befriended me when I was in danger, and to all the old peoples who have gone across, for the way they smile down on us with such great expectations.
